Hikes on the Schesaplana

The Schesaplana, also known as the Queen of the Rätikon at 2,965 m, is a particularly popular mountain. On the highest peak in the Rätikon you can enjoy a fantastic 360° mountain panorama – and inevitably become a border crosser. Because the national border between Austria and Switzerland runs directly over the summit of the mountain massif.

Hiking tip: To the highest peak of the Rätikon – the Schesaplana.

The start to the most famous, highest and most frequently climbed peak of the Rätikon is at the Douglasshütte / Lünerseebahn mountain station (1980 m). From here you walk west along the lake, then right up to the Totalphütte, past the small Totalpsee and the customs guard house to the Schesaplanasattel. From here it is only 55 meters in altitude to the 2965 m high Schesaplana summit. The same way applies back.

Walking time approx. 9.5 hours from Brand – distance 18.8 km (approx hours from Lünersee mountain station)

Viewpoint: Gafalljoch

From the Douglasshütte you start in the direction of the Lünersee circular hike. At Alpe Lünersee you turn to Switzerland and hike for about 30 minutes to the Gafalljoch, which is clearly visible from afar. Once there, you have a fantastic view of Switzerland and the Lünersee. Right on the border between Austria and Switzerland at 2,222 meters you can relax and enjoy the view. The way back can be done the same way, or alternatively you can choose the other side of the Lünersee.
