The Bregenzerwald is a region that offers a wealth of opportunities, especially for families with children. There is a wide range of activities here, tailored to the needs of families. From exciting adventure courses to well-equipped playgrounds – there is plenty for children to discover and experience here. The Bregenzerwald also offers educational excursion destinations that inspire both children and adults alike.
From 1902 to 1980, the Bregenzerwald was connected to Bregenz and Lake Constance by a 760 mm narrow-gauge railway. The Bregenzerwaldbahn fought again and again with the natural forces of the Ach Gorge on its 35 km long route. A massive rock fall near Kennelbach finally ended rail traffic. Today, the “Wälderbähnle” museum railway is a reminder of this past time on a narrow gauge and offers a unique and exciting experience, especially for children.

Right next to the soccer field in Doren, a wooden adventure course in the forest invites you to climb, balance and crawl. The course is available all day free of charge to families with children aged 2 to 10 who enjoy climbing and balancing. Signposted parking spaces are available in front of the official football club car park, and there is also a bus stop for line 820 (Sportplatz stop) in the immediate vicinity. Access to the adventure course is a little below the car park via a marked supply road in the forest (recognizable by the green signs).

Children can solve exciting puzzles and tasks in each village. A special brochure (available in the tourist offices) gives instructions and describes the tasks. Accompanied by Ferdinand, the clever fox, children and adults explore the villages. Each of the 5 communities (Mellau, Bezau, Bizau, Reuthe, Schnepfau) offers a fascinating circular route with many question stations. The paths can be walked individually or in combination. At the tourist office or from landlords, children receive the Puzzle Travel booklet – an exciting brochure with directions, questions and coloring pages. At the end of the puzzle journey, a small gift awaits the children at the tourist office.
